The Magic of Mister Mishkins by Samantha Mattocks Illustrated by Gerda Smit #Review #The Magical MisterMoshkinsBooks2
Everyone's favourite magical ginger cat returns to his Apothecary on Mosaic Street in book two of the Magical Mister Mishkins Series. Here, Mister Mishkins encounters Celene, a girl with a dream to dance with the mice on the moon. He and his clowder of cats help children with their everyday fears.
When a boy jumps into the Apothecary drawers, Mister Mishkins' new friend, Nero the Hero, joins the cats as they battle the emotions within the realm and try to reach the boy before it is too late.
Will they be able to save the boy? And will Celene get to go to the moon? Mister Mishkins has all the answers!
Samantha Mattocks's next book in her spellbinding The Mister Mishkins Series is full of charming world-building and reminiscent of Studio Ghibli classics.
This is such an attractive book, it is sure to appeal to readers who are aged 7 -11. The illustrations are bright and expansive and helps to bring to life the magical world which Samantha has created. At the back of the book there is a QR code to follow to find out more about the cats who are all real cats and I notice that there is a you tube Christmas story to explore.
Written in Chapters, the story has plenty of content and some vivid characters. With paragraphs and dialogue punctuated, it is ideal for older middle range readers. This warm story puts emotions centre stage as the cats help those with fears and misgivings to settle their emotions. It has a strong message of hope and dealing with each individual differently as everyone has a place to find.
Cat and Mouse say: be kind!
