Flicker's Garden Rescue by Jodie Parachini Illustrated by Bryony Clarkson #Review #TheGrandBugHotel
Flicker's Garden Rescue is a colourful picture book, aimed at ages 3-7. It was published by Albert Whitman & Company on October 27th.
Aitchoo! Queen Bee has the sneezies and is having trouble
organizing this year’s pollination. Without pollen, the plants won’t be able to
make the seeds and fruits for the annual Garden Party. Luckily, Flicker and her
friends are on hand to save the day.
This is a brightly illustrated and lively picture book which will absolutely appeal to young readers and pre-schoolers. I was bowled over by the illustrations which are bold and colourful and the personalities of the different bugs and insects really shine through. The story is ideal for reading aloud with differences in pace and format. The songs which are included and the conversations between the insects all add to the variety. There is so much to discuss in the illustrations and the concept of pollinating the plants is made clear in a fun way. There is a certain humour in the reactions of the bugs who are all up to their own interests which children will relate to. This is a fun picture book which will entertain and teach about nature.
Cat and Mouse say: grow, grow, grow!
